Root Bristol

Rob grew up in Somerset and joined the industry at the age of 15. Gaining experience from kitchens in London, France and Edinburgh Rob decided to move back home and became Head Chef at the then Michelin-star awarded Pony and Trap at age 21. Rob is now Chef Patron of Root which he opened in Bristol alongside Josh Eggleton in 2017 and was awarded a Michelin Bib-Gourmand in 2018.

Five years later, at the end of 2022, they opened a second Root in Wells, Somerset, and shortly after also gained a Bib-Gourmand for this site. in October 2025, they opened their third site, Root in Bath, which is their largest to date and boasts two floors and a pretty terrace with views over Bath.

Rob works closely with local suppliers and seasonal ingredients to create simple, honest and produce-driven food. He considers his location in the South-West to be a real advantage, affording him access to exciting produce from the surrounding countryside. Working with a hard-working and passionate team, he ensures that Root’s food offering stays unwaveringly fresh, sustainable and, ultimately, delicious.
