Community Tent

The League of Friends of the former Edward Hain Memorial Hospital are leading a community effort to establish a new health and well-being centre for the people and parish of St Ives, to be called The Edward Hain Centre. The intention is for the Centre to be in the now-closed hospital building in Albany Terrace. The hospital was founded in 1920 in memory of Captain Edward Hain, who was killed in WW1. It served St. Ives for 100 before being closed by the NHS. Join our campaign to buy the building and preserve this legacy for St. Ives! Find out more about the Edward Hain Community Project in the Community Tent at St Ives Food & Drink Festival with…
  • Teas and refreshments to buy
  • 10-minute Iyengar yoga “taster” sessions throughout the day on Saturday
  • A display of the gorgeous quilt made by the ladies of Pins and Needles, which will be raffled to raise funds
  • A display board from St. Ives Archives about the former hospital…and more!

Drop by to speak to them, ask questions, and learn about the events they have planned to raise funds for the new Edward Hain Centre of Health & Wellbeing in St. Ives!

Hotch Potch Performance

Hotch Potch are an outdoor arts company based in Cornwall. Blending circus, street theatre and visual arts to create spectacular yet intimate works. From fire and glow shows to stilt walking and storytelling, this husband and wife team make environmentally focused art for all ages.  Hotchpotch will be popping up with circus skills to share with all the family on the putting green across the weekend.

And look out for Detritus of the Deep!

He comes in the form of a strange spirit, draped head to toe, embodied and bound by human waste found at the depths of the ocean. He roams this strange world above the surface with an important message for its people. Detritus of the deep is a stilt walking visual display which boldly communicates the problems our waste is creating in the ocean. He reminds us we can do better and we should.

Porthminster Beach Cafe, Kitchen Garden Drop-ins

Take the opportunity to have a look around the Café’s beautiful kitchen garden on the beach. The Gardeners Polly and Dan, who is also a chef at the Café, will be available in the garden throughout Friday and Saturday and Sunday to introduce you to the garden and how it is used by the kitchen.

The garden has evolved from a foraging patch to semi-wild, semi-productive garden where the chefs have been able to forage favourite wild herbs along with cultivated salad crops, herbs and edible flowers. It is now on the cusp of an exciting new development where this combination is pushed to its logical conclusion, by introducing fully productive no-dig vegetable beds, alongside dedicated edible meadow beds. Come and see this process of development in action.

The garden is situated behind the Café’s entrance, just up the short flight of steps that take you onto the coast path. Please be aware that there is only a single narrow path in and out of the garden with uneven ground.
